Getting my excuses in early, I did think the four main card fights were all tough picks and I wasn’t all that confident of bagging all four for the win.

Jim Miller vs Joe Lauzon

I made a mistake in my build up, thinking Lauzon won the decision in these guys first fight back at UFC 155, when in fact it was Miller that took it. I agree with the two judges that gave it 29-28 to Miller, which unfortunately kills my bet right out of the gate. Not quite the spectacle their first fight was, but still an entertaining battle.

Paige VanZant vs Bec Rawlins

What a return for Paige VanZant? At times the first round looked a bit ‘style over substance’ but when one of the spinning kicks she’d been throwing landed flush early in the 2nd round and put Rawlins away, you could see why she kept going that way. Something for the highlight reel on her return.

Anthony Pettis vs Charles Oliveira

Going into the 3rd round even, the smart money was on Pettis fading due to the big weight cut and Oliveira winning the later ground exchanges. However, Pettis found a guillotine and got the win. I still don’t like Pettis at 145lbs but that win has bought him some time to regroup and get his career back on track. I suspect by this time next year he’ll be back up to 155lbs, but we’ll see.

Damian Maia vs Carlos Condit

Wow, great performance by Maia against a seriously dangerous opponent. That’s 6 in a row and he must now be right at the front of the line to fight the winner of Woodley vs Thompson. What a nice fella too. Really hope Condit doesn’t walk away from the Octagon. He always delivers a thrilling fight and the promotion would be much the poorer for him leaving. Wouldn’t blame him for following Rory MacDonald over to Bellator though.

I’m going to stick to the main card this time round and just the one bet:

£10 returning £0

Damian Maia to beat Carlos Condit – win

Charles Oliveira  to beat Anthony Pettis – lose

Paige VanZant to beat Bec Rawlins – win

Joe Lauzon  to beat Jim Miller – lose
