As is often the case with these UFN / UFC on Fox cards, there are no easy picks on it. Lots of really close fights expected.
Damian Maia vs Carlos Condit
Maia is on a tear, winning his last 5, most recently submitting the always game Matt Brown. Under normal circumstances, he’d be easy to back, but betting money against Carlos Condit is not something people who like money do often. Although he’s lost 4 of his last 6, those loses were to the last four welterweight champions. The money does have to go on Maia, but I’m expecting him to have to go through a war to get there.
Anthony Pettis vs Charles Oliveira
Pettis is heading down to Featherweight after losing three on the bounce. I’m struggling to imagine him at 145 as he’s pretty big for 155. Oliveira is no joke and is coming off a high profile win over up and comer Myles Jury. Prior to that a loss to Max Holloway ended a 5 fight win streak. This fight all depends how the cut goes for Pettis. Oliveira has missed weight a few times himself so isn’t likely to be much smaller than Pettis. I think I’m leaning towards the Brazilian.
Paige VanZant vs Bec Rawlins
The Paige hype train got derailed back in December when Thug Rose beat the bejesus out of her for 4 ½ rounds. She’s had a nice long break to do some dancing on the telly, and now she’s back in the cage to try and get the fighting back on track. Rawlins has won her last two, both in Aus, but hasn’t won on the road in over 3 years. This is a tough test for Paige to come back to, but I feel like this is where we really find out what she’s made of, and I think she’ll come through it with a win.
Jim Miller vs Joe Lauzon
This is the hardest of the lot to pick. Miller got back in the win column with a 1st round knock out of Takinori Gomi at UFC 200 and I finally got a chance to win money backing him. However, Lauzon was also a winner on the same card finishing Diego Sanchez just as quickly and devastatingly. They’ve met before, when Lauzon took a decision win back at UFC 155 in July 2012. That was fight of the night, and this one is a candidate to be the same. I’m leaning towards Lauzon to win again, but it’s no more than a gut feeling.
I’m going to stick to the main card this time round and just the one bet:
£10 returning £123.66
Damian Maia to beat Carlos Condit
Charles Oliveira to beat Anthony Pettis
Paige VanZant to beat Bec Rawlins
Joe Lauzon to beat Jim Miller
